In between -- while reading the ending and immediately afterward -- I was frustrated and annoyed by its seemingly improbable finale, involving flagrant violations of basic spycraft the brilliant Eva would never have made. It was only after I allowed the whole book to settle in my mind did I decide this was indeed the point, albeit implied rather than stated: the story of a spy who no longer NEEDS to spy, and indeed no longer CAN spy very effectively, but for whom suspicion and deceipt have become so ingrained she can't give it up. I liked the book all the better for it's rather subtle message (or so I believe) to require some reflection to tease out,Jill Hinckleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12343453016166841470noreply@blogger.com
